Ackeem Auguste earns West Indies senior T20 call-up

Saint Lucian batsman Ackeem Auguste is in line to make his senior West Indies debut this month, on the heels of an excellent run in the 2025 Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL). Five days after his 22nd birthday, the left-hander was named in a 15-member squad, which will play a historic T20 International series against Nepal at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the United Arab Emirates.

Trinidad & Tobago spinner Akeal Hosein has been named captain for the groundbreaking series, which forms part of the team’s build-up towards the ICC T20 World Cup in 2026, which will be staged in subcontinent conditions. The three-match series will be played on September 27th, 29th, and 30th.

Better known for his prowess in the longer format, Auguste has been honing his craft as part of the West Indies Academy and earlier this year in the Breakout League. A former West Indies Under-19 captain, he has proven in recent weeks that he is more than capable as a T20 batter.

In fact, Auguste scored the fastest 50 of the season, reaching the milestone in just 19 balls at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground. It was part of his match-winning knock of 73 runs off 35 balls to power the defending champion Saint Lucia Kings to victory over the Guyana Amazon Warriors in late August.

The youngster is just wrapping up his third season in the CPL, where he racked up a career-best 220 runs up to September 17 and a fine average of 31.42, usually batting in the top three. His knock of 73 was one of his two half-centuries, the first of his career, and he has hit a total of 22 fours and ten sixes.

He also compares well with his peers. Overall, he is the 15th-leading run-scorer in the CPL, despite having played two or three innings fewer than most of those ahead of him. More importantly, perhaps, only eight West Indians have more runs than him.

Auguste could become the fourth Saint Lucian to play for the senior West Indies team, following Daren Sammy, Johnson Charles, and Garey Mathurin.
