A strong and confident Saint Lucian team travelled to St Kitts and Nevis a day early for the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Amateur Golf Championships. Dwayne King, public relations officer of the Saint Lucia Golf Association, told the St Lucia Times that the goal is to win everything.
“We are defending net champs, but we want the gross prize,” said King, speaking from Basseterre. “We came a day early to get a lay of the land. Everyone shot reasonably well on the first practice day, with the youngster Britney Mangal shooting 83. Friday [October 3] is the official practice day, so I’m looking forward to getting the scores.”
Last year, in Antigua and Barbuda, Eugene Edwin topped the over-50 senior men’s division. He was joined by Terry Verdant and team captain Timothy Mangal to capture that team title. They will be keen to repeat the trick at the Royal St Kitts Golf Course in Frigate Bay this weekend, with Andre Dhanpaul replacing Verdant.
The men’s charge will be led by USA-based collegiate player Yadhu Urs, who will be joined by Harith Khan, Romanus Inglis, and Nicholas Beaubrun. Mangal, Lisa Garder, and Catherine Spooner comprise the women’s team. Victor Charles and McHale Andrew will play the over-60 super seniors, and King will play as the association representative.
