SOL’s $50K pledge lets employees champion local causes

SOL Saint Lucia is collaborating with its staff to give back to vulnerable members of society in a remarkable way. As part of the Parkland Pledge Initiative, staff members of SOL, a subsidiary of Parkland Fuel, were each allotted a sum of money via cheque to donate to a charity of their choice.

At an official handover ceremony held at the SOL Headquarters in Cul De Sac on Thursday, nearly EC$50,000 in funds was distributed to staff to support this effort.

Avery Mascoll, General Manager for SOL Saint Lucia and Dominica, revealed that this unique approach ensures that SOL’s corporate social responsibility is not “governed or dictated by the company but the staff members”.

“They choose the organisations and we as a company support and facilitate that initiative,” Mascoll said. “[For us] it is more about making sure that things that employees want to participate in, that they want to support, that we actually make sure they have the capacity and the means to give back. So we’re actually doing it through our employees, and that’s why we don’t dictate how it is done.

“All we want to do is make sure that the organisations are reputable and so that our funds can obviously go to a space that will contribute positively to the environment.”

Some of the organisations set to benefit include the Saint Lucia Blind Welfare Association, the Dunnator School, the Holy Family Children’s Home, and the Saint Lucia Cancer Society.
