Driver to contest traffic ticket in Castries Traffic Court

A Babonneau driver who was pulled over along the John Compton Highway back in July for ‘Contravening the Driving Code’ is heading to trial after challenging the charge in court.

Hildreth Murray Lewis is charged on July 28, 2025, while driving a BMW X1, registration number P8871. He was stopped by Officer #932 Lubin and issued a ticket for the alleged traffic offence, which carries a $200 fine.

When Lewis appeared before Magistrate Bertlyn Reynolds in the Castries Traffic Court on Monday, October 13, he signalled his intention to challenge the matter, maintaining that it was “not called for.”

Magistrate Reynolds, however, informed Lewis that should the officer be found in the right, he faces two possible consequences: an increased fine and the requirement to pay it immediately, or serve a custodial sentence.

The case has been adjourned to November 26, 2025, for trial.

  1. Wait, so what is the magistrate trying to imply, does the driver not have the right to challenge the charge. The MAGISTRATE, should also institute the other feature when he is found to be correct. I will leave it up to her imminence to offer the driver satisfactory compensation for wasting his time , character impeachement as his name has been divulged and an apology from the officer. As the officer is not a law unto himself but an officer of the law, his perception of the charge could be misdirected. But ,at no time does the matter cause the driver to lose his right to defense of the charge or to suffer an additional charge from the magistrate…When do we stop being abused !
