Secrets Saint Lucia Resorts and Spa on October 17 hosted a royal bon voyage for Saint Lucia’s Miss Universe delegate Shianne Smith. Smith will be among more than 100 delegates participating in the 74th Miss Universe pageant, scheduled for Thailand, on November 21.
Alisteer Nelson, director of sales and marketing at Secret Resorts, welcomed attendees to the send-off cocktail event, saying that it was a pleasure supporting the Miss Universe Saint Lucia pageant.
“It is an absolute pleasure and honour to join you here and to share in this moment,” General Manager Ricardo Esteban said, adding his voice to the celebrations.
Pageant Director Joycie Mederick thanked Secrets as well as all the other sponsors and well-wishers for coming along on the journey. Noting that this was the ninth crowning of a Miss Saint Lucia delegate under her Cinnamon Productions, she stated: “Many of you have stuck with me in making the journey a dream come true for these young women and to see their transformation during the journey is what has brought me the greatest satisfaction.”
Shianne Smith said on October 17, that she was reminded that she is now an amalgamation of every single Saint Lucia and will do her best to represent her country.
“I will pay homage to our island and really show that light and spirit that we all have here,” she stated.
“I personally believe I’m not owed anything in life. I don’t think I was owed this title. I don’t think I deserved it any more than my other delegates, but I’m just so grateful that I got to be the one to represent our Helen and to show that light to the whole world, and who we are as Saint Lucians.”
Smith says that while some judge the island’s strength by its size, she intends on making a point when in Thailand that Saint Lucia is a strong and proud nation.
Smith and her fellow contestants from the Miss Saint Lucia Universe pageant were all presented with tokens by ACADO as part of the grand celebration which was attended by family members of the contestants, sponsors, and the media.
Next week, pre-judging in a number of areas will be done ahead of the televised showing of the pageant on November 21.
