Final countdown for St Jude’s Hospital

The reconstruction of St Jude’s Hospital, one of the key healthcare facilities serving the south of Saint Lucia, is nearing completion after years of redevelopment. The project, led by the Rayneau Construction team, is now in its final stages as preparations continue for the long-awaited opening.

Completion of the hospital had been delayed for seven full weeks, but according to the project’s lead contractor, Rayneau Gajadhar, “a way forward has been agreed” and final installation works are now being completed.

“We’re now 98.5 per cent complete,” he said. “I say 98.5 per cent because there is always something to do and improve on.”

He added, “My team will remain at the hospital facility for at least three full months to help facilitate the transition from the stadium to the new facility.”

Photographs shared by Gajadhar show sections of the hospital’s new kitchen, which, according to him, “will be better equipped than most hotels.”

The hospital project, which has undergone several phases of reconstruction, is now approaching full completion. Once installation and testing are finalised, the facility will be prepared for the transition of staff and services from the temporary site at the George Odlum Stadium.
