Mizik 2025 is set to take place on Saturday, November 29, at the National Cultural Centre, under the theme A Legend’s Encore.
Organised by the Cultural Development Foundation (CDF), this year’s event celebrates the enduring legacy of Saint Lucian musicians and their contributions to the nation’s cultural heritage. The ceremony will pay tribute to 18 late musicians.
“We’ve lost so many, yet we’re so grateful that they have left us a legacy we can cherish,” said CDF Communications Director Kendal John during the launch ceremony for the second edition of Mizik.
Among the musicians to be celebrated are Nicole David, Lennie Stone, Leebo, Jany and King Caro.
Murchel Hippolyte, CDF’s Business Development and Marketing Director, said one of the organisation’s main aims is to successfully transfer elements of Saint Lucian culture to the next generation, therefore, Mizik 2025’s agenda will feature performances and tributes by local musical acts – both seasoned and new, and young and old – including King Dezral, Derek Yarde, Arthur Allain, Sly, Ricky T, Shervon Sealy, Herb Black, Michael Robinson, Kisha Kay, Cupid, LuShanne and Ti Caro.
The event also includes a training component featuring a two-day workshop for aspiring emcees, facilitated by Gilroy “Ezi” Hall and Barbara Jacobs-Small.
“We are investing in the voices that will guide our stages, that will articulate our heart, and that will amplify our culture by enhancing capacity within the creative sector. We are not just putting on a show…,” said Hippolyte. The first day of the workshop was November 8. The second is scheduled for November 15.
Upon its launch in 2024, according to Hippolyte, Mizik was intended to celebrate Saint Lucian musicians and their contributions to the country’s cultural footprint and identity. When CDF debuted the event, it was held in honour of calypsonian Herman Hippolyte, more popularly known as “De Ashanti”.
As November 22 marks St. Cecilia’s Day, Hippolyte also noted that the event provides an opportunity to raise awareness of the day, observed locally as “a feast of musicians – another creative part of our culture.”
On November 29, doors to Mizik will open at 7 p.m., with the event starting at 8 p.m. Tickets are available at The Cell Stores, PromoTech Store, and the CDF office, priced at $60 for early birds and $80 regular. Admission at the door will cost more.
