Team Saint Lucia finished in second place at the 33rd Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Swimming Championships, from November 7-9 in St. Vincent & The Grenadines, up from fourth a year ago. Eight countries descended on the Shrewsbury Aquatic Centre in Ratho Mill, Kingstown for the championships.
The Saint Lucian contingent walked away with 66 podium finishes, including 32 gold medals, 16 silver, and 18 bronze, to wrap up a successful three-day event. The swimmers from Fair Helen were bettered only by Team Grenada, who finished first overall, just 24.5 points ahead. Hosts St Vincent & the Grenadines finished third overall.
Among the standouts were US-based 17-year-old Antoine Destang, who was dominant with nine gold medals from 11 events, setting multiple OECS records, and Olympian Mikaili Charlemagne who topped the 18+ girls with eight gold medals. Meanwhile, Sapphire Parks, 11, won 10 of her 11 swims and 8-year-old Keyanno Elibox was the top performer in his age group, securing six gold medals.
“Overall, Saint Lucia delivered a strong and inspiring performance at this year’s OECS Swimming Championships,” said Liza Verneuil, PRO for the Saint Lucia Aquatics Federation. “From start to finish, our swimmers truly embodied our 2025 motto to ‘Rise Up’. They maintained second place throughout the competition, showed incredible determination, and delivered exceptional performances across all age groups.
“We also had standout moments with record-breaking swims, which highlighted the depth of talent and dedication within our team. Personal best times, strong individual events and consistent teamwork all contributed to an unforgettable showing.
“We are extremely proud of the athletes, the coaches and the entire support team for the progress and resilience demonstrated.”
