BYD launched in Saint Lucia, set to feature at EV Lucian Car Expo

JQ Motors has brought BYD, one of the world’s fastest-growing electric vehicle brands, to Saint Lucia. The October 25 introduction of the lineup, which includes full battery electric and plug-in hybrid models, comes as the automotive industry undergoes a major global shift toward cleaner, more technologically advanced transportation.

“The automotive industry is in the middle of a once-in-a-century transition, and BYD is one of its most disruptive and innovative forces,” Brand Manager Neron Joseph said. “The name BYD stands for ‘Build Your Dreams’, and their vision is a cleaner, greener future brought to life through technology.”

Joseph highlighted that BYD’s origins as a battery manufacturer underpin its strength in the electric vehicle market. “This expertise in energy storage is the core of its electric vehicle business,” he said. He noted that the brand designs and produces most of its own components, from batteries to electric motors. The company’s Blade Battery and e-Platform 3.0 were showcased as standout innovations, offering enhanced safety, durability, and efficiency.

The launch also introduced new models entering the local market, including the Sealion 7, a full electric all-wheel-drive SUV, and the Yuan Pro, a compact EV positioned as an affordable, fully featured option. Joseph noted that features like Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability are built into the lineup. “This is being showcased this evening as the BYD Shark pickup outside is providing all the power for our DJ,” he said.

Group CEO of JQ Charles Group of Companies, Gordon Charles, described the launch as a pivotal moment for JQ Motors. “Industry players and market dominance are quickly shifting,” he said. “Legacy automakers are being forced to adjust, adapt or recede. Leading this charge is the BYD brand.” He added that securing the dealership rights reflects JQ Motors’ strategic repositioning toward the future of the automotive sector.

Charles noted that the shift to new energy vehicles was inevitable for Saint Lucia. “Our transitional journey is ongoing and far from complete, but we are confident that we have identified a solid path to success,” he said, crediting the company’s leadership and staff for driving the move.

For those who missed the official launch, BYD models will be featured at the EV Lucian Car Show on November 15 at the Caribbean Cinemas car park, where the public can view the vehicles up close, explore the technology and engage with JQ Motors representatives.
