Choiseul Secondary students win Regional Schools Investment Competition

A team of students from Choiseul Secondary School won the recent Regional Schools Investment Competition – an initiative created to expose youth to investing via the Eastern Caribbean Securities Exchange (ECSE).

The competition requires students from across the region to formulate investment strategies based on common market realities. Organised through the ECSE, the event features a blend of fictional businesses and mimics real-world circumstances.

During an award ceremony last week, Alite Investors from Choiseul Secondary were declared regional champions of the third instalment of the competition. The team included Melanie Poyotte, Deighdra Denis, Kayleigh Zoe Flavien, Alisha Jn Baptiste, Kayann Simon and Faith Charlemagne, alongside their teacher guides, Shirle Ann James and Stephanie Theophane- Charles.

“The opportunity to participate in the regional school investment competition is one that I truly appreciate,” said Simon during her team’s acceptance speech. “We gained a better understanding of how the stock market works in terms of the factors that influence share prices…”

The team walked away with backpacks containing various gift items from brand partners, certificates, gold medals, an investment gift voucher valued at EC$540, and a $6,500 cheque for their school.

In second place were the Boys on the Hill Investment team from the Grenada Boys’ Secondary School. Team members included Ericson Howard, Chemarion Ross, Caleb Williams, Ché Toussaint, and Jaedyn Pierre, alongside teacher guide Jocelyn Emmons.

“Before this competition, I never knew what stock trading was. I normally heard it on the media but now I have an understanding of what I should do with my money and how it can shape my future,” said Williams.

Vieux Fort Comprehensive Secondary School’s N’Oct’urnal Invests won the category for the most creative video submission. The team comprised Zayn James, Janile Montoute, Jonathan Yang, Triston Bernard, Kevin Snagg and Shernisa Joseph, with Xanna Octave as teacher guide.

St. Martin’s Secondary’s SMSS Prosperity Pioneers won the category for the most well-presented strategic approach. The team included Delroy Adams, Nasir Antoine, Joshua King, Carter Francis, O’shai Alexander and Amani Hackshaw, with Asheika Charles and Briana Jacobs as teacher guides.

The fourth edition of the competition will take place at the end of this year under a new title – the Trevor E. Blake Regional Schools Investment Competition – in honour of Blake’s contribution to shaping the Eastern Caribbean Securities Exchange and the wider Eastern Caribbean securities market over the past 25 years. He retired as the Exchange’s managing director on December 31, 2025.
