Saint Lucia ended the Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association (ECVA) Under-23 Men’s Championship in fourth place, losing four consecutive matches after winning their first two.
It was an improvement by one place from 2023 for the 2021 champions.
The tournament ended on Sunday, November 16, at the YMCA in St John’s, Antigua & Barbuda.
On Sunday night, Dominica triumphed 3-1 over hosts Antigua & Barbuda (25-15, 20-25, 25-17, 25-19) to lift the championship trophy.
Grenada earned bronze, coming back from 0-1 and 1-2 deficits to beat Saint Lucia 3-2 (21-25, 25-16, 23-25, 25-14, 15-12) in the third-place playoff. It was a much-improved showing from Saint Lucia, who were beaten 3-0 by the Grenadians in the preliminaries.
Despite failing to secure a medal, Saint Lucians were included in the individual accolades after the final. Captain Daniel Mayers-James was celebrated as the best scorer, and Peter Emmanuel was named best first middle blocker.
With wins over defending champions St Vincent & the Grenadines and Anguilla, the team will be hopeful of staying together for the next iteration of this competition in 2027. Everyone is eligible to return, and the 10-member squad included players as young as 14 and 15.
