Castries woman faces 20 charges after port firearms bust

A 32-year-old woman from Carellie Gardens, Castries, has been charged with 20 firearm and ammunition offences after police intercepted a shipment of illegal weapons at Port Castries last month.

The accused, Shanice Leopold, who police say was the consignee for the shipment barrel, was arrested following the joint operation.

Inspector Shervon Matthieu, Officer in charge of the Gangs, Narcotics and Firearms Unit, confirmed that the interception and following investigation led directly to a series of charges, including nine counts of possession of firearms, nine counts of importation of firearms, one count of possession of ammunition, and one count of importation of ammunition.

Leopold appeared before a magistrate on Monday, December 8, 2025, and has been remanded in custody.

  1. I sincerely hope that the “criminal women” (There seems to be a surge) are not being trafficked as mules for drugs and arms shipments. This needs to be looked into.
