Vitus Peter calls for a united Saint Lucia through music

One week after Saint Lucians went to the polls, and just days before the island marks National Day on December 13, Vitus Peter is turning to music to make a simple appeal: unity.

He has released a new track, One People, One Saint Lucia, a song he hopes will help cool political temperatures and remind the nation of its shared identity.

Peter is probably best known for his work in the live streaming space in Saint Lucia. But music has long been a quiet but steady part of the life of the founder and owner of Great Vision Designs Television Station (GVDTV). He grew up in a musical family, his sister Tiesha is an emerging artiste, and he has written numerous songs over the years.

But Peter told St Lucia Times that this one felt urgent.

Peter said he felt compelled to release One People, One Saint Lucia because he believes the country has grown increasingly divided.

“And it’s not just the people; even our leaders are divided,” he said.

“We have a nation where we have become social bullies, so I decided to put something out, especially after this election. I decided to write something that would inspire unity after the general elections, to remind Saint Lucians that we are one family.”

He shared a portion of the lyrics, which speak to shared dreams, cooling tempers and standing together regardless of political choice:

“A new day rises over Helen of the West / red or yellow we all beating in one chest / from Vieux Fort shores to Gros Islet lights / we all share the same dreams / the same island nights / let’s cool the tempers / let the anger fade / for this blessed nation Jah himself has made / no matter who you voted for the truth is clear / we still one people standing right here / so let’s come together / Saint Lucia stand tall / one heart one island / one love for all….”

The song follows an earlier collaboration with TK Irie which called for an end to gun violence

He described the new track as a rallying call for Saint Lucians to shift their mindset and move forward together, regardless of political differences.

Peter wrote the lyrics and music and performed the vocals, with some AI assistance. Although he plays multiple instruments, he believes in blending natural talent with technology.

As for his future in music, he said he intends to continue writing and producing, but does not see himself as a stage performer.

“I like being behind the scenes,” he said, though pausing briefly as if weighing the thought.

For now, he’s encouraging the public to download and share the unity track and help spread its message, one he believes the country needs now more than ever.

  1. “For now, he’s encouraging the public to download and share the unity track and help spread its message”…however, rhe article NEVER states how we can access the track. Smh.

Mr Peter says he gave it a Jamaican/American accent to give Saint Lucians a different vibe…the authenticity, in my opinion is completely lost. Trying to bring Saint Lucians together using foreign appeal. Make that make sense.
