Soufriere tragedy sparks heartfelt tributes to devoted father

A community in Castries is mourning the loss of 31-year-old Sherman Lionel, who died following a boating accident off the coast of Anse Mamin, Soufriere, on Wednesday.

Lionel, of Trois Piton, was snorkelling when he was struck by a vessel. Despite being rushed to the Soufriere Hospital by private means, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead around midday.

As word of the tragedy spread, tributes poured in across social media, painting a picture of a devoted father and passionate diver. Friends and relatives remembered Lionel’s deep love for his three young children – one boy and two girls – and his joy in the water.

“You died doing what you love (diving),” one post read. Another reflected, “The man was all about his kids. I’m so sad for them.”

Police have confirmed that another individual was injured in the incident, though details of their condition remain undisclosed.

The Marine Intelligence and Investigations Unit continues to probe the circumstances surrounding the accident.
