The 2026 Kenson Casimir Bay Bay Cup tournament continued on Wednesday, January 28, under the aegis of the Gros Islet Football League, with two matches at the Francis Baba Lastic Grounds (FBLG). Gros Islet Youth got the better of GMC United, whilst Police defeated Veterans.
The Northern United duo of Traylan Henry and Thierry Morille got the youth team off to a perfect start, swamping the reigning national club champions 3-1. Henry, a student at Saint Lucia Sports Academy, netted in the 19th minute. Morille, who has represented Saint Lucia up to the Under-20 level already, doubled the lead three minutes from the halftime whistle.
Three minutes into the second half, Morille popped up again to compound the misery for GMC United. The Corinth based outfit got a consolation marker in the 84th minute of play.
“They [put] on a strong and disciplined performance, showcasing the depth of young talent emerging from the northern region,” said Gros Islet Youth head coach Francis Panko MacDonald.
“The team, which is a combined unit featuring players from Northern United, GMC, Monchy, New Generation, and Dominators, demonstrated excellent teamwork, commitment, and attacking intent throughout their outing.
“The collaboration between clubs was evident in the way the team moved the ball, supported one another defensively, and created scoring opportunities. This unity highlights the success of community-based football development and the potential of these young players when brought together under a common goal. Overall, the performance was an encouraging sign for youth football in Gros Islet.”
MacDonald praised the finishing ability, movement off the ball, and composure under pressure shown by his young attackers.
In the earlier game, Police won 1-0 over Gros Islet Veterans. Merthinda Sidney scored the sole goal.
On February 1, four teams will be in action at the FBLG. Monchy FC and Police will both seek to build on winning starts in Group B, as will Gros Islet Youth and New Generation FC in Group A. Games move to the Grande Riviere Playing Field on February 4.
