Ten sporting associations submit nominations for prestigious national awards

Alfred in line to win Sportswoman award for second year running

Saint Lucia’s sprint queen Julien Alfred is the overwhelming favourite to capture the Sportswoman of the Year award when the 44th National Sports Awards ceremony is held on February 14.

The event will take place at the Royalton Hotel, with a total of 29 nominations across various categories, in what promises to be a night filled with pomp and celebration.

Alfred, 24, the reigning women’s Olympic 100-metre champion, is tipped to claim the award for a second straight year after an impressive 2025 that saw her finish third in the 100 metres at the World Athletic Championships and also defend her Diamond League 100 metre title.

She will come up against West Indies Women’s cricketer Zaida James, netballer Melika Destang, basketballer Meagan Nestor and Mikaili Charlemagne (aquatics).
