James House emerged victorious with 224 points at the Ave Maria Girls Primary and Infant track meet last Friday.
The event, hosted at the Mindoo Philip Park, saw young female athletes compete for sporting glory across various disciplines.
James House was followed closely by Pierre with 212 points, Egan with 192 points, and Hennecart with 180 points.
There were several standout performances worthy of the victrix ludorum prize in the various age groups. For the Under-9s, Amelia Alfred of Pierre captured the trophy. Chriselle Lionel of James won for the U-11s, and Sarah Harrow of Hennecart claimed the title for the U-13s.
Kayla Thorpe, the physical education teacher for the infant school, said this platform gave the girls an opportunity to express themselves, incorporating various learning methods that go beyond the classroom.
“Sports [is] one of the few places where a student can ‘fail’ spectacularly in a safe environment,” she told St Lucia Times in an exclusive interview.
“Losing a race teaches resilience and critical thinking in a way that a bad grade on a test rarely does. Sports also forces students to turn a group of individuals into a single unit, teaching them that collective success is more important than individual ego,” she added.
