Castries man, 39, fatally stabbed

The island has recorded another homicide, following an incident at Morne Du Don, Castries, on Thursday evening.

The deceased Germaine Modeste, also known as “Germs”, was fatally stabbed, reportedly during an altercation at about 6 p.m.

The deceased, Germaine Modeste

A niece of the deceased, who was 39, told St Lucia Times that she was at home when she heard some commotion outside.

“I came outside and I saw my uncle on the step, bleeding to death. I was traumatised. I have never known my uncle to be involved in any acts of violence. He was very loving, he always says it as it is and if he saw you doing something that was not good, he would always tell you ‘check on yourself’,” the visibly distraught relative said.

Another eyewitness said he observed two males known to the community physically confronting the deceased.

The eyewitness said that after he called for help, the assailants fled the scene. However, the victim had already been stabbed and was said to be bleeding profusely.

Emergency responders from the Saint Lucia Fire and Emergency Services were called to the scene. Despite efforts to save him, Modeste succumbed to his injuries.

Police have launched an investigation into the matter.
