SLTA assures safety following US Embassy advisory on Ladera Resort

The Saint Lucia Tourism Authority (SLTA) has given the assurance that guests and tourists on the island are safe at the Ladera Resort .

On February 4, a security advisory published by the US Embassy Bridgetown advised US government officials not to stay at the hotel, located on the southern end of Saint Lucia, just outside the port town of Soufrière.

The Embassy’s notice cited safety concerns, stating that “crime may pose a serious risk to guest safety and the resort may not be able to respond adequately.”

However, in a statement issued on Tuesday, the SLTA said the incident referenced in the advisory was linked to a limited series of robberies that occurred within a specific timeframe on the southwestern region of the island during the latter part of 2025.

The SLTA maintained that those issues had since been resolved.

“These matters have since been addressed and brought under control. In response, a series of tourism stakeholder meetings were convened beginning December 2025, and enhanced security measures have been implemented in the affected area,” the statement read.

According to the SLTA, the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force treated the situation with high priority and actively investigated the incidents, resulting in arrests and the laying of charges.

“Since these actions were taken, there has been no known further disruption to the overall visitor experience, and tourism operations continue without interruption. Saint Lucia remains a safe and welcoming destination, where the safety and well-being of both our residents and visitors are of paramount importance,” the statement further added.

The SLTA said it continues to work closely with national authorities and tourism partners to ensure appropriate safety measures remain in place, allowing both residents and visitors to enjoy the island with confidence and peace of mind.
