Unstoppable Jn Baptiste victorious at Laborie Girls

Jn Baptiste House were indomitable on Tuesday, running away with the Laborie RC Girls’ Primary School track championships at Phillip Marcellin Ground. After an exciting day of athletics, school principal Donna Peter-Joseph told St Lucia Times the only real contest was for second place.

“It went well. Started early and finished on time,” said Peter-Joseph. “Jn Baptiste House led from the start, and finished strong in first place. They were able to amass a total of 712 points. The toss-up for second and third place, between Jn Panel and Roland, became interesting in the afternoon with the relays.

“Overall, Jn Panel House dominated the relays and was able to sneak past Roland House on the last relay to capture second place with a total of 520 points, leaving Roland House behind with 510 points, to go back to the drawing board as they finished in last place once again.”

Jn Baptiste took the trophy back to Eucalyptus Avenue thanks to brilliant efforts from their Under-13 and Under-7 athletes, as well as Kishanie O’Reilly in the Under-11 division. Jn Panel otherwise dominated the Under-11 category, and swept the Under-9’s.

In the senior category, Amirah St Aimee led Jn Baptiste sweeps in the 80m and 150m, with teammate Alaina Isidore the runner-up on both occasions. Roland’s Eleanor Emmanuel topped the 300m, with St Aimee in third. In the 600m, Roland’s Leona Edward held off a strong push from the Jn Baptiste pair of Leannie Francois and Jeanique McFarlane. In a bit of an upset, Jn Panel took honours in the 4×75, but Jn Baptiste held firm to win the 4×300.

Among the Under-11s, O’Reilly won the 600m and 1000m for Jn Baptiste, with L’Anore Belasse of Jn Panel second in the 600. Belasse got a gold medal of her own, however, in the 300m, relegating O’Reilly to second best. Hilarie Edward led a Jn Panel quinella in the 80m, with Keriana Labadie taking silver. Edward then led another Jn Panel 1-2 in the 150, with Breann Mater in second place. Edward wrapped up her individual competition with a bronze in the 300m.

For the Under-9’s, Jn Panel’s Saige Edward took top spot in the 60m and 150m. Edward had to settle for second place in the 300m, as teammate Danielle Jn Charles was able to pip her to the line. Unsurprisingly, Edward and Jn Charles combined to help win the 4×75.

Louisiana Simeon was a double gold medallist for Jn Baptiste in the Under-7 girls, where she won the 40m and 80m. Jn Bapstiste won the sprint relay in that group, with Simeon on anchor.

The parents’ relay was, as ever, entertaining, and the incident-free day came to a close by 2:45 pm.
