It was all change at the Canon Laurie Anglican Infant and Primary School track Championships held on Wednesday, February 11, at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground. Vanderpool won the primary meet after finishing last in 2025. Lake, third out of four teams last year, came up trumps this time around.
Vanderpool won comfortably over Vaughan, 272 to 239. Defending champions Patterson were third on 237, and Weekes occupied the cellar with 133 points. The infant meet was narrowly won, Lake on 113 edging title holders King by two points. Collymore got 84 points, and James 67.
The top athletes for Vanderpool were Hilarian Smith Jr and Kieran Dupre in the Under-11 boys, and the stellar Shadane James in the Under-13 girls, where she was all but unbeatable across four individual events.
James took the 80m in 11.5 seconds, ahead of Patterson’s Izinga Xavier and Vanderpool’s Vernansha St Luce. She just about held off Vaughan’s Adele Clercin in the 150m, winning in 22.9 seconds. She then added a third gold medal in the 300m, running 52.9 seconds and again relegating Clercin, the defending champions, to silver, with St Luce third. Clercin got a measure of revenge, winning the 600m in 2:21.6, James taking silver, and Vaughan’s Kenayah Richard bronze. Richard ran 4:22.0 for the top spot in the 1000m, ahead of St Luce.
Spoils were shared among the Under-13 boys. Patterson’s Kernil Euratice, Rahziel Alphonse and Sherwayne Price, all of Weekes, each took one gold and one silver. Alponse won the 1200m in 4:43.2, and was second in the 600, where Gehani Francis ran 2:07.9 to win for Vanderpool. Je’Van Fulgence took the 300m in 50.3 seconds for Vaughan. Price won the 80m in 114 seconds, with Euratice second. Euratice won the 150m in 21.5 seconds, with Price second.
Similarly, Smith and Dupre shared Under-11 honours with Vaughan’s Hayden Isidore. Dupre won the 80m in 12.1 seconds, with Isidore the runner-up. Isidore turned the tables in the 150m, with a 22.6-second win. Smith was undone by Vaughan’s Nahiem Justin with a time of 55.1 in the 300m, but came up with the goods in the 600m, running 2:29.3 for gold.
There was another split in the Under-11 girls, but it was an all-Patterson affair. Nella Moncherry won the 80m in 12.4 seconds and the 150m in 24.4 seconds. Jhamia Albertine captured the 300m in 1:04.3 and the 600m in 2:41.0.
Lake’s Liliana Joseph got a gold and bronze in the Under-9 girls. Her housemates, Kimari George and Anton St Marthe, each got a gold medal for the boys. Kamaria Harrow and Kerryson Andrew gobbled up the 40m kindergarten races, both for Lake.
