Trinidad and Tobago Soca icon Machel Montano is the undisputed king of the road. Machel has made history by capturing the most road march titles for his country’s Carnival, following the announcement of this year’s results on Wednesday.
Machel’s Encore was adjudged the most played song on Carnival Monday and Tuesday – his 12th road march title. Machel and Lord Kitchener had been tied on 11 wins each.
Machel first owned the road in 1997 with Big Truck.
Bunji Garlin placed third with Road Man behind Voice with Cyah Behave, which was co-written and co-produced by Dwayne Mendes of Saint Lucia.
This is not the first time a Saint Lucian producer/songwriter has contributed to a road march song in Trinidad. Courtney Louis contributed to Machel’s Jumbie in 2007.
Cyah Behave was also performed by Republic Bank Exodus, earning them the title of Panorama champions for 2026.
Both Machel and Voice are expected to perform in Saint Lucia later this year. Voice is on the lineup for Soufriere Jazz on May 2, while Machel will headline Color Me Red on July 17.
