Excellers victorious at Pearlette Louisy sports

The athletes of Dame Pearlette Louisy Primary School are primed and ready to defend the school’s District 1 Championship title when the northernmost primary schools return to the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground on March 13.

DPLPS held its inter-house meet on February 24 at the same venue, with Excellers standing tall as champions. The boys and girls in red amassed 583 points, 72 points clear of Challengers (orange) in second. Achievers (blue) totalled 492 and Visioneers (green) brought up the rear with 456.

The sole District 1 gold medallist at last year’s District 1 meet, and the Saint Lucia Athletics Association juvenile male athlete of the year, Avary Maryat, starred in the Under-11 boys’ division. He won the 300m in 52.0 seconds, and the 150m in 20.5, whilst taking silver in the 80m for Visioneers.

Tabielle Emmanuel of Excellers was the U11 girls’ victrix ludorum, clocking in at 2:26.1 for 600m, and 1:00.5 for the 300.

New stars emerged in the Under-9 category. Kaeden Casimir was the top boy, with gold in the 150m in 24.6 seconds, and silver in the 60m for Challengers.

Kamilla Solomon of Challengers swept the girls’ races, taking the 150m in 25.6 seconds and stopping the clock at 10.1 for the 60.

There were new names in the Under-13 category, as well. Micah Donnelly was a double gold medallist. He won the 600m in 2:02.9, and pulled away to win the 1200m in 4:54.5 for Achievers.

Ezabel Charles of Visioneers won the 300m in 52.2 and the 1000m in 4:01.1, but was foiled by Juneika Quinlan in the 600. But that silver medal allowed Charles to break a tie with Chloe Emanus, also of Visioneers. Emanus won the 150m in 21.2 and the 80m in 11.2 seconds.
