Police seize firearms, ammo in three communities

Police have reported a series of firearm and ammunition seizures in recent weeks, with targeted operations across Vieux Fort, Micoud and Babonneau resulting in multiple arrests and charges.

In a news release on Monday, the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force said a search of a residence by its Gangs, Narcotics and Firearms Unit (GNF) in Morne Cayenne, Vieux Fort, led to the recovery of one rifle. Three people – Linus Fontenelle, 55; Kwame Fontenelle, 24; and Berthelia Winter, 52 – were arrested and charged with possession of a firearm. They appeared before a Magistrate and were each granted bail of $35,000 cash or suitable surety.

In Dugard, Micoud, officers recovered one round of 5.56 ammunition. Kervan Laurence, 25, was arrested and charged with possession of ammunition. He was granted bail in the sum of $3,500, payable in cash or by suitable surety.

In Chassin, Babonneau, a targeted operation by GNF North resulted in the recovery of a .357 revolver. Jean‑Mal Thomas, 26, was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm. He has been remanded to the Bordelais Correctional Facility.

The seizures follow the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force’s January gun amnesty, which offered individuals the opportunity to surrender illegal firearms without fear of prosecution. No official tally of surrendered weapons has been released.
