Pearlette Louisy Primary dominate District 1 track meet

District 1’s twelve primary schools clashed in friendly rivalry at the Daren Sammy Ground, sharpening their form for the upcoming Inter‑District Track Finals, where they’ll aim to finally unseat District 8’s recent dominance.

Dame Pearlette Louisy Primary once again proved the class of the field, storming to the District 1 crown on March 13 with 1,159 points, well clear of Gros Islet Primary’s 771 in second and Monchy’s 606 in third.

Next were Balata on 488 followed by Fond Assau, 456 points; The Montessori Centre, 356; Grande Riviere Primary, 329; Babonneau, 309; La Guerre, 277; Boguis/Des Barras Combined, 231; Bonne Terre Prep, 72; and The International School,10.

That commanding margin set the tone for individual battles, where DPLPS athletes captured all but one divisional crown.

Topping the Under-13 division were Asa Emmanuel for the boys and Monchy’s Timikah Bernard for the girls. Among the Under-11s, double defending champion Avary Maryat and Lu-Marie Ottley were the star athletes. Kaeden Casimir and King James shared the Under-9 boys’ title, and Daniqua Emmanuel was the top girl in that age group.

Asa Emmanuel led a DLPLS 1-2 in the 80m and 150m, running 10.1 seconds and 19.6 seconds to lead teammate Jeremiah Etienne. Elsewhere, Gros Islet’s Orlando Felix won the 300m in 47.8 seconds, Babonneau’s Dre Volney ran 1:49.3 to win the 600m, and Balata’s Jahvis Emmanuel ran 4:21.5 to win the 1200m.

Monchy’s Bernard won the 80m in 11.0 seconds, just about holding off DPLPS speedster Chloe Emanus. The two met again in the 150m, Bernard winning in 20.7 seconds with a bit more daylight. She added the ball throw title, which separated her from Ezabel Charles of DPLPS. Charles won the 600m in 1:59.4 and the 1000m in 3:48.7, with teammate Juneika Quinlan second in both events. Gros Islet’s Nadel Joseph ran 48.9 seconds to win the 300m.

Maryat did the 150m and 300m double, running 20.5 and 51.3 for gold. 150m silver medallist Joshua Emmanuel won the 80m in 11.4 seconds for DPLPS. And Asym Dorsett ran 2:06.9 to capture the 600m gold for Gros Islet.

DPLPS won everything in the U11 girls. Ottley won the 150m in 23.4 seconds and the 300m in 56.3 seconds. Teammate Rubie Murray was second in the 150m. Mikka Forde led fellow DPLPS athlete Tabielle Emmanuel in the 600m, cutting the line at 2:28.2.

Casimir won the Under-9 boys’ 150m in 24.5 seconds, and teammate James won the 60m in 9.7 seconds, whilst Casimir took fourth. Daniqua Emmanuel won the Under-9 girls 60m in 9.8 seconds, and was third in the 150m, which Montessori’s Robyn Pierre Louis took in 16.4 seconds.

Disappointingly fourth last year at the Inter-District meet, D1 will hope that home cooking can finally break District 8’s recent monopoly on the title.
