Edward’s explosive 93 powers Babonneau into PM T20 final

Babonneau will return to the finals of the Prime Minister’s T20 Cup following a dominant victory over Central Castries in the semifinals on Wednesday. A small crowd at Mindoo Philip Park watched the fixture, which was a rematch of last year’s final.

Despite losing the toss and bowling first, Babonneau impressed with the ball, restricting Central Castries to 137-7 in 20 overs. Spinners Johnnel Eugene (3-16) and Larry Edward (2-23) contained the scoring, with pacers Sanjay Hayle and Sacchin Cepal claiming a wicket each. Stephen Naitram led Central with 39; no other batter surpassed 20 runs, resulting in an under-par total.

Last year’s final between these two went down to the very last over. However, this matchup was nothing like the 2025 nail-biter.

Dane Edward took the batting effort into his hands, demolishing the Central Castries bowling attack. The opener scored a rapid half-century in under 20 deliveries, breaking the back of the chase in the powerplay overs.

Edward scored a remarkable 93 runs off just 32 deliveries, accounting for 65% of his team’s total before he was dismissed. Babonneau chased down the total in just nine overs and sealed victory by eight wickets with a thumping six, with their parliamentary representative, John Paul Estephane, in attendance.

Babonneau will now face Choiseul in the final, scheduled for Saturday at the same venue.
