Top two finishes for Pilgrim in collegiate sprinting

Cagini Pilgrim led the Lewis University Flyers to a strong performance at the Washington University Invitational over the weekend. The Sir Ira Simmons Secondary School graduate won the men’s 200m and finished second in the 100m in his first outdoor meet of the season. In St Louis, Missouri, the 21-year-old clocked 21.03 seconds (wind 0.9 metres per second) to win the 200m and ran 10.51 (0.9 m/s) to earn silver in the 100m.

Wichita State Shockers freshman Jasmine Stiede won the women’s 800m in 2:17.50 at the Emporia State Spring Open, continuing her strong form from the indoor season. Both of her parents went to ESU, with her father, Marcellus Stiede, having an outstanding basketball career.

The University of Texas San Antonio Roadrunners started their field event-only schedule at the Charles Austin Classic. They earned two top-three finishes, including second place in the women’s hammer throw for Lauralyn Clifford, who threw 54.59m (179-1). This was her second meet in a row with a medal-winning performance.
