Four games played, four games won for La Clery in the Saint Lucia Football Association’s Northern Zone Under-20 Men’s District Tournament, as they ran the table by beating Marchand 4-1 on Wednesday night, April 1, at the Grande Riviere Playing Field. Gros Islet sealed the second seed by defeating Central Castries.
La Clery controlled the match against Marchand, who still reached the semifinals. Mehki Phillip scored first in the opening half, and Alex Devaux made it 2-0 just three minutes into the second half.
Jalen Phamphile pulled one back in the 56th minute for Marchand, but youth international Justice Germaine poured on the style with a brace in the 67th and 70th minutes, capping things off with a beautiful header from a Devauz corner.
Gros Islet built up a 3-0 halftime cushion against winless Central, en route to a 7-0 triumph.
Only eight minutes into the game, top scorer Rickelme Lionel intercepted the ball in the attacking third, faced the keeper one-on-one, and scored with a low shot to the left.
Thierry Morille scored twice more in the first half, with his first goal coming after another steal by Lionel and a quick pass in the box. Morille added two more goals in the second half. Returning senior international Shevon Byron also scored in the 47th and 58th minutes.
The competition moves on to the semifinals on Sunday, April 12, with Babonneau, Gros Islet, La Clery, and Marchand remaining in contention.
In the Eastern Zone Under-20 Men’s competition, matches pick up again on Saturday, April 4, at Micoud Playing Field. Mabouya Valley faces Dennery, and Mon Repos takes on Desruisseaux.
