Jules takes first place in US collegiate pole vault event

Naya Jules took the top spot in the pole vault and earned two more top-four finishes at the Tabor Invite to lead the Garden City Community College Broncbusters. The 19-year-old from Babonneau placed third in javelin throw and fourth in sprint hurdles, highlighting Saint Lucian track and field athletes in collegiate action this past week.

Naya Jules set the Garden City CC school record in the women’s pole vault.

Jules won the pole vault in McPherson, Kansas, clearing 3.08 metres, her second-best career mark. She also finished third in the javelin with a throw of 40.16 metres, her third time surpassing 40 metres this season. A 5.4 metre-per-second wind helped her achieve a personal best of 16.87 seconds in the 100m hurdles, placing fourth.

Cagini Pilgrim finished second in the men’s 200m at the Chicagoland Championships, running 21.58 seconds for the Lewis University Flyers. The sophomore from Castries competed in Elmhurst, Illinois.

At the 44 Farms Team Invitational in College Station, Texas, Lauralyn Clifford recorded her fourth consecutive women’s hammer throw over 58 metres. The senior transfer placed fourth for the University of Texas San Antonio with a 58.24-metre throw at E.B. Cushing Stadium.

At the Bucknell Outdoor Classic, St Bonaventure freshman and St Joseph’s Convent alumna Malaika George ran a personal best of 1:00.65 in the women’s 400m, moving up to third in her school’s history.
