Decomposing body found hanging in Augier

Police in southern Saint Lucia are investigating the death of a 34-year-old woman whose decomposed body was discovered in Augier, Vieux Fort.

The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force reported that officers from the Criminal Investigations Department at Vieux Fort Police Station responded to a call at about 3:00 p.m. on Monday, May 4, 2026, in Pomme, Augier. They discovered the decomposed body of a woman hanging from a tree.

The body was transported to St Jude Hospital and later identified as 34-year-old Talia Norma Hippolyte of Augier, Vieux Fort.

A postmortem examination is scheduled for Friday, May 8, 2026, to determine the cause of death. Police confirm that the investigation is ongoing.

Community members have expressed shock at the discovery. Several individuals told SLT that Hippolyte had previously experienced mental health challenges.

This incident has renewed discussions about mental health awareness and access to support services in Saint Lucia, highlighting the importance of recognising and addressing emotional distress.

The incident has also raised concerns about graphic videos circulating on social media, reportedly depicting the deceased at the scene. Community members are urging others to refrain from sharing such content out of respect for the victim and her family.

This is a developing story.

  1. I hate to say this – but a majority of your St. Lucian population are seriously heartless individuals. Instead of trying to help and be concerned about other individuals as well as their loved ones – they choose to be quick with a camera recording all types of graphic content and posting scenes all over the internet/whatsapp etc. etc. etc. Some of you really need to go pray for you have already sold your soul to satan with this type of demonic behavior.

What kind of malveetaye wicked individuals would resort to this type of insensitive behavior???. Anyone who is even thinking of sending me irresponsible content – considered yourself BLOCKED with IMMEDIATE EFFECT – nonsense.

  2. We have become an insensitive, selfish, self centered, simple-mined, callously entertained, short-sighted people. This kind of behavior in response to such a horrible situation definitely is evidence of who we have become and what we appreciate. How our “leadrs” behave in response to each other and in thouse is more evidence, how we have responded to partisan material at the Jaz fesitival, the fact that people are herded like animals in poorly staffed and poorly equipped buildings called hospitals and we are un perturbed, that crime continues everyday unabated and we find excuse after excuse because we want to support our party etc etc etc. We are not about to get any better because we do not see anything wrong with most of this and other issues, and we refuse to see the connection – until it reaches home. It will take time for most of us, but it will eventually reach home and there will be no one left to support.

  3. How sad for this individual and her family and how very sad that heartless people in St Lucia think it’s acceptable to send photographs of such a tragedy through Social Media.
Take a good hard look at yourselves and ask would you want this done to you or your loved ones?! Do unto others etc…

  4. Very well said, they are very quick to share and incourage evil, the familly should bring charges against them
