South Castries and Vieux Fort South joined Gros Islet and Dennery in the quarterfinals of the Blackheart/Saint Lucia Football Association (SLFA) Under-20 Boys’ Knockout Tournament, after Round of 16 victories at the Philip Marcellin Grounds in Vieux Fort on Wednesday night.
South Castries had the better of the Castries derby, as they defeated Central Castries 2-0. Scoring for the South Castries team were Tyler St Rose in the 12th and Armani Lesmond in the 49th.
Mon Repos, 3-2 winners over Desruisseaux in last Saturday’s qualifier, were unable to book a spot in the next round, but they fought back bravely against Vieux Fort South to make the scoreline look respectable.
The home team was up 2-0 within 15 minutes with a Jeremie Toussaint goal, and a Seth Reneau own goal. Tristan Alphonse made it 3-0 17 minutes into the second period. Andreas Charlery tallied a 90th-minute brace for Mon Repos.
The tournament moves to Soufriere on May 29. Choiseul will play Mabouya Valley, whilst Canaries will be pitted against Eastern Zone champions Roseau Valley, who had to come through a qualifier.
Top-seeded La Clery will go into action on May 31 against Micoud, and Southern Zone champions Soufriere will play Anse La Raye.
