Monchy win twice as Castries youth football kicks off

Over 300 players from 10 clubs took part in youth football matches last weekend at the Sab Playing Field in Vigie. Monchy United picked up two wins, while Big Players and Lancers also claimed victories to kick off the 14th LUCELEC and BOSL Castries Youth League.

In the Under-12 division, Monchy United beat Lancers 2-1. Maxwell Andrew netted twice in the first three minutes, and even though Jaden Biscette pulled one back in the seventh minute, Monchy’s defence stayed strong to win the match.

Flames United and VSADC played to a 1-1 draw. King Altenor opened the scoring for Flames in the eighth minute, but Javel Lubin gave VSADC a response just four minutes later. Neither side could force a winner in an evenly contested second half.

Big Players FC were awarded a walkover win because FC Pioneers did not field a team.

In the Under-17 division, Lancers put in a strong performance and beat VSADC 3-0. Kaylan Moise, Ali Elliot, and Alexander Elliot each scored, while the Lancers’ solid defence kept VSADC from scoring.

Monchy United won a tough and physical match against Valley Soccer Club. Nasri Alexander and Curtrel Francois scored for Monchy, while Darius Prince got one goal for Valley Soccer Club. The game turned decisively when Valley Soccer’s Kimani Joseph received a straight red card, leaving his team with fewer players for much of the match.

The LUCELEC/BOSL Castries Youth League started with an impressive opening ceremony. Players, parents, sponsors and officials from the Saint Lucia Football Association and Castries Football Council were all there to celebrate.

LUCELEC’s corporate communications officer Carmy Joseph told the young players that this tournament has helped many footballers succeed at all levels. She encouraged them to make the most of this chance to compete and show their skills.
