Olympic women’s 100m champion Julien Alfred will not compete at the Commonwealth Games, despite earlier reports suggesting she would return to the event where she won silver in Birmingham three years ago. The Saint Lucia Olympic Committee has announced a small team for the Games, which start in less than three weeks.
The SLOC also revealed the team for the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games during a press conference on Wednesday, July 1.
Only three track and field athletes will represent Saint Lucia in Glasgow, Scotland, from July 23 to August 2. For the CAC Games, 26 athletes from seven sports will head to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, from July 24 to August 8.
Netball, boxing and weightlifting will not be represented in Glasgow but will be at Santo Domingo, along with golf, table tennis and sailing. Swimming is not represented at either event.
The Glasgow team includes three male sprinters. According to the Saint Lucia Athletics Association and SLOC, athletes had to meet the qualification standard three times during a set period, with at least one result in the 2026 season. Only four track athletes met these requirements.
Khailan Vitalis will compete in the men’s 110m hurdles on Monday, July 27. The Clemson athlete ranks among the top 16 in the Commonwealth this year, having met the qualifying standard 11 times.
On July 28, Michael Joseph and Marvric Pamphile will compete in the heats of the men’s 400m. Joseph, a 2024 Olympian and national record holder in the event, hit the standard seven times. Pamphile, who is in the British Army, reached the standard three times, though all in 2025.
Vitalis will quickly return to action in the opening rounds of the CAC Games on Tuesday, August 4. He is currently the only track and field athlete slated to compete.
Other individual competitors are two-time sailing Olympian Luc Chevrier in the men’s laser and Yadhu Urs in men’s golf. Saint Lucia will make its multi-sport debut in weightlifting with Raiven Gabriel and Jennica Albert. John Didier, Kyghan Mortley and Donaii Cooman will compete in boxing.
The table tennis team will have six members: DeAndre Calderon, Manie Eleuthere, and Leshon Francis for the men’s competition, and Shatal Charles, Zarianne Anthony, and Cherese Darcheville for the women’s.
In netball, Saint Lucia will face Trinidad & Tobago, the Dominican Republic, Bermuda, defending champions Jamaica, and Barbados from August 3 to 7. Saint Lucia are ranked fourth ahead of the Games, but it is uncertain how strong Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago will be, since both teams will also compete in Glasgow, where netball ends on August 2.
Saint Lucia’s netball team is strengthened by professional basketballer Megan Nestor and college athlete Dasha Eugene. The team also features Jermia Martial, MVP of the recent Coast To Coast tournament, and Under-16 national captain Naija Ferdinand.
Lizzy Dorvius, Aaliyah Estephor, Kiana Nelson, Lerkisha Felix, Melika Destang, Patrina Wilson, schoolgirl shooter Neriah Charler and Roxanne Snyder complete the team.
