Three people have been charged after police seized a firearm magazine, suspected cannabis and suspected cannabis plants during a joint law enforcement operation in Gros Islet earlier this week.
According to the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF), the operation was carried out around 3 a.m. on Wednesday by officers attached to the Northern Division Operations Team, the Gros Islet Criminal Investigations Department, General Duties, the Gangs, Narcotics and Firearms Unit (GNFU), the Special Operations Team (SOT) and the Special Services Unit (SSU).
It said the operation formed part of ongoing proactive policing efforts ahead of the Gros Islet Carnival weekend.
During the execution of a warrant to search for firearms and ammunition at a residence on Notre Dame Street, officers seized a firearm magazine. Twenty-five-year-old Linus Clovis, also known as “Lucky”, was arrested and later charged with possession of a component of a firearm.
He appeared before the First District Court on Friday and was granted bail of $20 000 in cash, land documents or suitable surety. As part of his bail conditions, he must surrender all travel documents, remain in Saint Lucia unless granted permission by the court, refrain from applying for travel documents without the court’s approval, and report to the Gros Islet Divisional Headquarters every Saturday between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. His case was adjourned to September 9.
At a residence on Dauphin Street, officers also seized a quantity of suspected cannabis. Ronald Charles, 41, was arrested and subsequently charged with possession of a controlled drug and possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply.
Charles appeared before the court on Friday, where he was granted bail of $2 000 in cash or suitable surety on the possession charge and $1 000 in cash or suitable surety on the possession with intent to supply charge. He was also ordered to surrender his travel documents, remain in the state unless permitted by the court, refrain from applying for travel documents without the court’s approval and report to the Gros Islet Divisional Headquarters every Wednesday between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. His matter was also adjourned to September 9.
Meanwhile, at a location in Degazon, officers seized a quantity of suspected cannabis plants and seedlings. Twenty-seven-year-old Joshua Thomas was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled drug and possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply.
Thomas appeared before the First District Court on Thursday, where he was granted bail of $1 500 on each charge. His matter was adjourned to October 7.
