The Eastern Caribbean Financial Holding Company (ECFH), Bank of Saint Lucia (BOSL) and the National Insurance Corporation (NIC) have paid tribute to Evaristus Jn. Marie, remembering him as an influential leader whose service helped shape some of Saint Lucia’s most important institutions.
Jn. Marie, who died on Friday at the age of 67 following a long battle with illness, held several senior leadership positions throughout his career, including Chairman of ECFH, Bank of Saint Lucia and the National Insurance Corporation.
In a joint statement, ECFH and BOSL described his passing as the loss of “an exceptional leader” whose career was defined by integrity, visionary leadership, dedicated public service and an unwavering commitment to Saint Lucia’s economic and social development.
The institutions said Jn. Marie provided steady leadership during a pivotal period for the company after assuming the chairmanship in 2021. They credited him with helping to guide the organisation through a changing economic landscape while championing strong corporate governance, accountability and long-term sustainability.
The statement said Jn. Marie’s leadership left a lasting impression on both boards and management.
“Mr Jn. Marie provided steadfast leadership and invaluable guidance to our Board and Management team,” it said. “His dedication to good governance, his deep understanding of business and finance and his genuine concern for the advancement of our institution and our country have left an indelible mark on ECFH and Bank of Saint Lucia Limited. We have lost not only an outstanding Chairman, but also a respected mentor, colleague and friend.”
The National Insurance Corporation also reflected on Jn. Marie’s years of service, noting that he served on several NIC boards and committees from February 2021 until his passing.
The corporation said his commitment to the organisation reflected his appreciation of the important role the NIC plays in the lives of Saint Lucians, adding that he approached his responsibilities with fairness and professionalism.
“He will be remembered for his calm yet positive demeanour and commitment to fairness.”
Both ECFH and Bank of Saint Lucia, along with the National Insurance Corporation, extended condolences to Jn. Marie’s family and loved ones, saying his legacy of leadership, integrity and public service would continue to inspire those who had the privilege of working alongside him.
