Over the next few weeks, the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground (DSCG) will host the Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL) SchoolYard community initiative. Players will join more than 50 children from around the region as they get ready to go back to school.
On August 17, students at both the DSCG and Jamaica’s Sabina Park will join in fun, interactive games with CPL franchise players and then receive school supplies.
The initiative will continue in Guyana and Barbados with a “Take a Player to School” campaign. “Players will visit schools in both territories to engage directly with students, sharing their personal journeys and speaking to their own path from schoolchild to professional cricketer,” CPL says.
Christine Charles, CPL’s chief marketing officer, said these off-field activities show how cricket can make a positive difference in young people’s lives.
“CPL SchoolYard is about more than cricket. It’s about showing young people across the Caribbean that the players they cheer for started out exactly where they are now, in a classroom, with a dream,” Charles said.
“We’re proud to help send children back to school with everything they need, and even prouder to watch our players give their time to inspire the next generation.”
