A family is mourning after two brothers died in separate road accidents exactly one week apart.
Police have identified the latest victim as 28-year-old Meshack Frederick from La Resource, Vieux Fort.
Frederick died following a collision in Cedar Heights, Vieux Fort, during the early hours of Friday morning, one week after his 27-year-old brother, Dane Frederick, died following a collision along the Micoud Highway.
The Saint Lucia Fire Service reported that emergency crews responded around 1:55 a.m. to a car crash involving three people, including Meshack, at Cedar Heights.
St. Lucia Times learned that the vehicle went off the road and crashed into a wall at a home.
When emergency staff arrived, they found the car on its side with Meshack trapped underneath. Two other men, who said they were also in the car, were found by the roadside.
Firefighters pulled Meshack out from under the car. He was unresponsive and showed no signs of life.
Rescuers tried to save him before taking him to the hospital for further treatment. Police later confirmed that he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The two other men had facial injuries and other wounds. They were treated at the scene and then taken to hospital.
Around 1:30 a.m. on Friday, August 21, officers from the Micoud Police Station responded to a collision involving a motor scooter and a backhoe on the Micoud Highway at Malgretoute.
Police said their initial investigation showed the scooter was heading south when it left the road and hit a parked backhoe.
Dane, who was riding the scooter, and his 22-year-old passenger were taken to St Jude Hospital with injuries.
The 27-year-old later died from his injuries, while his passenger was reported to be in stable condition.
Police are investigating the circumstances of both crashes.
