New Executive elected for Correctional Service Welfare Association

A new team has taken the reins of the Correctional Service Welfare Association (CSWA), with members electing an Executive Committee that will represent them for the next three years.

The elections were held on August 12 and 13, bringing Gavin Toussaint in as President and Nelcia Gaston as Vice President.

For the new executive, the job now shifts from campaigning to representing correctional officers on the issues that affect them directly, from working conditions and welfare to communication within the service.

The newly elected executive comprises:

  • President: Gavin Toussaint
  • Vice President: Nelcia Gaston
  • General Secretary: Cleta Cylis
  • Assistant Secretary: Zelia Alexander
  • Treasurer: Shermine David
  • Public Relations Officer: Curneil Estava
  • Trustee: Elijah Donat
  • Trustee: Elmagin Sealy
  • Trustee: Rebecca Mathurine

The executive has already assumed responsibility and says one of its main priorities will be keeping members better informed about matters affecting their welfare, working conditions and professional development.

Public Relations Officer Curneil Estava said communication will be central to the new administration’s work.

“The new Executive is committed to ensuring that members remain informed, engaged, and represented,” he said.

The association is also expected to continue engaging with relevant stakeholders on matters affecting correctional officers and the wider service.
