Public hearings into fatal Anse Cochon boat collision begin Tuesday

Public hearings into the July 18 boat collision off Anse Cochon, Anse La Raye, which claimed four lives and left several others seriously injured, will begin next Tuesday, October 13.

The Government announced last month that the commissioners appointed to investigate the accident had been sworn in.

The Commission of Inquiry was appointed on September 4 by Acting Governor General Felix Finisterre, CMG, on the advice of Cabinet. Retired Justice Mario Michel is the chairperson, with maritime consultant Cuthbert Didier, retired Superintendent of Police Kentry Frederick and Assistant Commissioner of Police Luke Defreitas serving as the other commissioners.

Shahida Charlemagne-Octave is the legal counsel, while Lenita Joseph serves as secretary.

According to the Government, the Commission has been mandated to conduct a full, fair and impartial inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the collision involving the Ocean Angel and the Cazorla Jr.

The public sittings will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Parliament Building. Members of the public and the media have been invited to attend.

Anyone interested in appearing before the Commission to give oral evidence is asked to contact Joseph by letter, email or telephone.
