Goals galore in schools football: Matchday 2 delivers thrills

The Schools Under-19 Boys Football Tournament is well underway, with Matchday 2 bringing loads of goals. Wednesday’s fixtures were hosted in the southern and coastal areas of the island, with all northern games being postponed, “due to extenuating circumstances”, according to officials. A total of 30 goals went in across five games at three venues.

At the Soufrière Stadium, the TVET Institute of Construction and Heritage (Piaye) bested Vieux Fort Comprehensive Secondary School in an 11-goal thriller. The fixture, which ended 6-5 in favour of the TVET Institute, was highlighted by a four-goal performance from Mathius Isidore, who scored in the 34th, 40th, 63rd, and 75th minutes for the Laborie-based school. Other scorers for the TVET school included Sherhil Alexander (20th minute) and Kurtney Sonson (61st minute).

For Vieux Fort Compre, Joshua Joseph (10th, 30th) and Elijah St Romain (27th, 53rd) both scored braces, while Jahil Dormant netted in the 65th minute as well.

At the Philip Marcellin Grounds, Soufrière Comprehensive Secondary School defeated the TVET School of Innovation & Technology (Anse Ger) 5-2. Soufriere’s Curdin Jones notched a hat-trick (2nd, 10th, 56th), giving his team an early 2-0 lead before netting his team’s fifth goal. Mickel Mitchell’s quickfire strikes in the 40th and 41st minutes provided the other goals for the boys from Sulphur City. On the scoresheet for the TVET School of Innovation and Technology were Kishawn Canchon (35th) and Benaiam Poyotte (60th).

A second fixture at the same venue saw Beanefield Comprehensive and Choiseul Secondary School trade blows in a 2-2 draw. Micah Brouet put Choiseul up in the 39th minute, allowing his team to go into halftime with a 1-0 lead. Strikes from Keonte Derose (51st) and Stewart Emmanuel (80th) saw Beanefield turn the game on its head entering the final 10 minutes. However, Dermille Theodore’s 83rd-minute equalizer saved Choiseul’s blushes, drawing the game level.

There were also three fixtures at the Saint Lucia Football Association’s Technical Center. Micoud Secondary School finished level with the TVET Institute of Culinary Arts & Sustainable Agriculture (Grande Riviere) at 1-1.

Leon Hess Comprehensive School defeated Clendon Mason Memorial School 3-1.

Additionally, Ezekiel Cunude’s 18th-minute strike followed by Ethan Thomas’s 44th-minute goal saw C.A.R.E. defeat Entrepot Secondary School 2-0.
