Antigua & Barbuda to showcase Commonwealth Cricket Celebration in November

Cricket West Indies (CWI) will celebrate cricket’s “power of partnership, friendship, leadership, teamwork and shared purpose” at One Commonwealth, One Team – A Commonwealth Cricket Celebration. This special event, held as part of the 2026 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Antigua & Barbuda, will take place this Sunday, November 1.

The Caribbean-based Hamilton Reserve Bank (HR) will present the showcase in collaboration with the Government of Antigua & Barbuda and the Sustainable Markets Initiative, under the theme, “Accelerating Partnerships and investment for a Prosperous Commonwealth.”

The programme will feature two matches under the banner, One Commonwealth, One Team: a special fixture between Caribbean heads of government and leaders from the wider Commonwealth, followed by the Commonwealth Future Stars Under-23 10-over-a-side match, which highlights cricket’s brightest regional prospects.

Organisers say the initiative was inspired by Antigua & Barbuda’s national hero and cricket legend, Sir Vivian Richards.

“Cricket has always been much more than a game across the Commonwealth,” the legendary former West Indies top-order batsman stated.

“It is a shared language that brings people together across nations and generations. I am delighted that, as we welcome the Commonwealth to Antigua & Barbuda, cricket will help bring the spirit of CHOGM 2026 to life – celebrating friendship and teamwork and creating opportunities to work together as one team.”

CWI President Dr Kishore Shallow noted that the initiative “celebrates that shared heritage while looking forward”.

“By bringing leaders of Government and young cricketers together on the same field, we are creating an opportunity to celebrate where we have come from, while highlighting the importance of investing in the people and partnerships that will shape the Commonwealth’s future,” he added.
