If you want to make love, you will choose certain lyrics. Ban the somgs I say! Having a smart phone does not make one smart, bring in a garage does not make one a car.

These songs, with their vile lyrics, definitely have a negative impact on the minds of the weak and vulnerable in society. I have seen this first hand. If we don’t stand up for something, we’ll fall for anything. The murder rate is frightening and the authorities are for the most part too silent. It’s time for the government, law enforcement and the general public to declare ‘war’ on these criminals and miscreants in the society. See something, say something.

Imagine a well known secondary is having the students to create songs for theatre arts using that filthy song. I cautioned him. He cursed me using the f … Word. SMH. Theatre arts plus visuals arts should be banned in school. All these subjects creating all these problems in the island. They removed religious education for theatre arts and visual arts. It is not that people will not have access to violent songs if these songs are not promoted publicly, but they will not feel encouraged to act out negatively as a result. The critical consideration is that violent songs, and movies too, tend to encourage negative behaviour. So when these songs and movies are given public air play and screen plan, people who are predisposed to violence will see this as a form of public endorsement. And they will act as copy cats. Songs against people are also inspiring negative action that may well be unfair.

Again, I ask the question where is the minister and the pm in all of this? We need them to allay the fears of the nation for They are ultimately responsible for the security of this nation. They must let us know what policies they have in place to tackle crime. They have to! These policies do provide guidance to law enforcement groups in their efforts for tackiling crime.

We do not want them to tell us about “people doing voodoo” or “it is the last administration’s fault” or “parents must be more responsible” or “the police need more guns”. People’s lives are being taken at an alarming rate and it seems we will, by midyear, surpass the record number of homicides. They (The Chas and security minister) need to be front and center or else the people WILL MAKE THEM!

    Now over to you Sad-But-True.

I believe the rate of killings has nothing to do with the PM or any Minister or the Police or the law. It has everything to do with US…we the people of the nation who hide the criminals behinds the scenes. The past killings which have happened in the public eye, in broad daylight, in the view of many eye-witnesses with no hidden identity of the faces of the criminals are never reported. However, when a killing is done by the Police who tried to apprehend a criminal, hundreds of witness speak up. so I say, only blame ourselves…..the society we live in.

        February 8, 2017 at 9:18 am

I couldn’t agree with you more. People never see anything when the Police question them about an incident but yet call out to the same Police and say they not solving crime.

Are you kidding me!? The PM and Security minister are directly responsible for SECURITY of the country and therefore, they MUST come out and show LEADERSHIP in the fight against crime.

The call is not for them to itemize the nitty gritty of fighting crime but they MUST iterate government’s policies on HOW crime will be tackled. This is not about politics but about ALLAYING the fears of the public!

On another note, if politics is what it is then, when Kenny was PM, the mantra was “Kenny needs to address the nation” or “Lacobs needs to address this”. Today, y’all saying ministers should not be held accountable!? They must DEAL with it!

  29. Just saying
    February 8, 2017 at 7:06 am

Everytime i read about another murder i am afraid to come here to read the comments which are being made by our people. They potray such grace in ignorance by typing what their minds tell them to.
The fact is; our social structure has crumbled and fallen. No one cares about anyone until you read or hear of one killing another then the smart comments come out. Over the years there has been a break down in the family structure. We have homes with one parent. Homes where the child has to send his or her self to school note i said child that is 5 – 6 years young. Families where the parents care more about going out. Drinking. Having fun they call it and return home screaming at the kid(s) because all they want to do now is rest and poor babies are hungry. This is where the problem starts. In the home. Parents have to be more resonsible or should be held accoountabl for their actions. If a child drops out of school the school should investigate. Government should allocate funs for parents who cant afford so that the children can get their basic needs and in the same breath hold parents responsible if their child does not go to school. A few weeks in jail would wake alot of them up.
Some of you say ” let the criminals kill each other” oh thats a brilliant idea dont you think? The problem is the older criminals arent even doing crime anymore. Its the young men now barely i their 20s . And if you were to kill them all off then what happens? The little criminals in training, those who skip school, those who are always in fights, those who walk around town with half if not all their asses haunging out of their trousers. These ones come right up and take the place of the fallen.
What i am saying is : we need to take responsibility for our actions. We have allowed this to go on for to long and all we do is point a finger. Cast the blame on others because its easy to do. And it feels good not being responsible. Heck it feels good being a critique. What we are not realizing is that the cure to this social ill isnt laws or killing them off or casting blame, its bringing back the true meaning of family. Stop saying society falied me or her or him. If theres no family then theres no society. Just a bunch of educated animals running in different directions. If we truly want this crime thing to stop. Then parents pay attention to your children. Please.

In a way it’s a good thing that the criminals are the ones doing the killings, because when its the Police hundreds of witnesses speak up but when its the criminals coincidentally….no witnesses, even when the killing happens in a crowd of people. the whole nation is quiet then, no justice for the crime, but when its the police everyone wants justice for the deceased criminal……….Mary Francis, take note.
My philosophy, its ok for the criminals to take out their own kind…….good with me….SHAME ON YOU ST. LUCIANS

  33. My Thoughts
    February 8, 2017 at 8:37 am

Mr Prime Minister the way forward to addressing this alarming crime situation is not to give the police more men or guns. We need to tackle the root cause of the problem. We need to strengthen our family structure. We need to put sanctions in place for those parents who turn a blind eye on their kids or if we already have sanctions enforce them please. I am tired of seeing young kids out there especially in vieux-fort begging for food. We have real social problems in st Lucia and we need to go after them. The police force, Human Services, Social Transformation, the Department of Justice need to work collaboratively to come up with a sensible and logical strategy in which to deal with the situation. Also the religious groups need to go after troubled souls; get up on your cheeks to win souls for God. Preaching on the television is not enough, a crusade is not enough. People this is serious and we need to cooperate to help bring a positive change to this society.

Finally somebody on this site say something sensible.
Most of these lil boy criminals with no fathers, mothers overseas trying to make a dollar, grandmother too old to hold them firm…etc etc They are just kids who went astray. Couples fight and kill each other, leaving kids parentless cus they don’t have the skills to raise strong families and deal with the pressures in this world. Start at the root, help kids to see their value and the value of life, rebuild and support the family structure, the community, the neighbourhood system. Then crime might decrease.

Music is a reflection of art, art is reflection of life and the society on a hold. The music relay what’s seen and experienced based on the societal norms. The deterioration of the arts is just an indication that society is failing. Society is failing to inspirer not the other way around

    How about ..

The government supplying the streets with the guns and drugs, bad business, coke deals gone wrong, young people with no source of income, bigger heads indulging in acts of prostitution, no facilities for sports and arts and the recognition of those who make attempts to better their situation, brutal police killings, unfair justice systems, fininacial aid going to the over privileged vs the less fortunate ..
