Saint Lucia shot Grenada out for 80 runs and then took 21.2 overs to overhaul the total, for their most straightforward win to date in the 2024 WINLOTT Windward Islands Cricket Board (WICB) Under-15 Tournament. Saint Lucia won by nine wickets on Thursday at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground.
A trio of pace bowlers truly starred for Saint Lucia – Samuel Jean, Harry Monzie, and Kaleb Charles took nine of the 10 Grenadian wickets to fall.Â
Monzie had played a big role in starting the collapses of Grenada and St Vincent & the Grenadines in the first two wins for Saint Lucia. This time, he tore through the top order with Kaleb Charles. Monzie took 3-18 and Charles 2-11.
By the end of the seventh over, Grenada were 27-4 with Monzie and Charles having claimed two wickets apiece. They laid the foundation for the diminutive Jean to get to work.
Jean had previously taken 3-9 against St Vincent & the Grenadines. This time he took 4-18 from five overs to earn player of the match honours. The young man from La Fargue and Choiseul Secondary took Kemile and Ethan Abraham for seven and 12.
The third wicket for Jean, Jeremy Edwards for duck, came at the end of an over that included 12 deliveries, the first 11 of which were either dot balls or wides. Jean then got Tyler Davis trapped leg before wicket, also without scoring, for a fourth in succession.
Daniel Lorde, who contributed in previous fixtures with the ball, delivered this time with the bat. He made 35 at the top of the order, facing 60 balls, and hitting five fours, before the Abrahams combined to dismiss him. Trevern Edward retired hurt, but Saint Lucia got to 82-1 with no major issues to retain their place at the top of the table.
On Wednesday, the home team’s unbeaten record was preserved despite an underwhelming performance with the bat, as their game with Dominica ended in no result thanks to bad light. Jeanille Williams had another strong game, hitting 39. Saint Lucia finished on 127-9 in 30 overs. Dominica started off strongly, but the match was eventually called off.
Saint Lucia will play St Vincent & the Grenadines and Dominica again this weekend. With three wins and one no-result, they are ahead of Dominica with two wins, a no-result, and a loss; St Vincent & the Grenadines and Grenada each with one win and three losses.
