GPO Employee Among Two Arrested in Major Drug Bust

A General Post Office employee and a second suspect are set to be charged in connection with a major drug bust after authorities intercepted a narcotics shipment disguised as food items last week.

The GPO worker was arrested on Wednesday, while the second suspect was taken into custody on Friday during a police operation in Millet, where electronics were also seized. The arrests followed a joint investigation by the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force’s (RSLPF) Gangs, Narcotics and Firearms Unit and the Customs and Excise Department.

The operation began on Tuesday when officers intercepted a suspicious package at the GPO in Castries. The shipment, declared as food items and originating from the United States, was found to contain 80 rectangular bricks of suspected cannabis resin, each stamped “Made in California”.

The drugs weighed 8.02 kilograms with an estimated street value of EC$320,800.

Authorities have since secured the drugs as evidence, and charges are expected to include: importation of controlled drugs under the Drug (Prevention of Misuse) Act, fraudulent evasion under Section 84 (2) Schedule 3 – Part 2 Paragraph 5 and goods improperly imported under the Customs Act Section 32 (1) (b), (d) & (f).

The RSLPF hailed the seizure as a major disruption to the illegal drug trade, emphasising their continued efforts to combat narcotics trafficking. Investigations remain ongoing.

  1. I hope y’all will also arrest the “person(s)” who brought in (1) the container of drugs, (2) the barrels containing drugs, and (3) the refrigerator containing drugs. Y’all going after the little man (as you should) but not doing anything to the “biggers” of society. Absolutely NADA!

  2. Most of you in St. Lucia are extremely envious and want to get rich overnight, buy car overnight, build house(s) overnight, lavish jewelry and designer clothing etc. etc. etc. —- only illegal activity which will ultimately lead to your demise one way or another can offer such deadly returns.

Learn to live within your means – but I guess most of you do not want that.
