Elisha Norbert urges artists ‘don’t sell yourself’

Elisha Norbert, the United Workers Party candidate for Micoud North, has urged Saint Lucian artists to stay true to themselves during political times.

“Do not sell yourself,” Norbert told a crowd of supporters in the constituency on Sunday. “Stay neutral, because when all fails, all we will have left are our artists. Remain true to who you are; Saint Lucia needs your authentic light.”

Framing his campaign as more than politics, Norbert said, “This is a movement… a new dawn.” He urged residents to stand up, get involved, and take pride in their community. “Do not let fear win. Do not let apathy win. Do not let corruption win. We are marching towards a new day.”

Norbert described his journey into public service as one driven by love for people and a desire to “fix things” and “right the wrong”.

His plans for Micoud North focus on three pillars: the land, the people, and the light, which is also the national motto. “We need to empower the people so they can use the land so our light can shine,” he said.

Highlighting the constituency’s agricultural and developmental potential, Norbert promised to champion better land access, title ownership and infrastructure for farmers and fishers.

He also stated his vision for youth empowerment. “Over 50 per cent of every single child born in Micoud North can get a scholarship lined up by the age of 16, depending on their talent,” he said. “We have to empower the people. Give them their independence.”
