One dead following Gros Islet shooting

One man is dead following a shooting in Gros Islet in the evening on September 9. The deceased has been identified as Ned Josiah Herman, a beach vendor by occupation. Preliminary reports suggest the incident may have stemmed from a dispute involving an unidentified woman, which began over the weekend.

The victim’s mother, Marlienne Herman, spoke to reporters on September 10, expressing shock and sorrow. She stated that she was unaware of her son having any conflicts or ties to gang-related activity prior to the incident.

“My son has never been in problems with anybody. He’s a vendor at Pigeon Island. He rents his chairs. He does his aloe vera…No gangs” she said.

“I miss my son a lot. Even though we were not close together, that’s my son, my last son. That hurt me. And my [it happened] on birthday again. And that’s what I get for my birthday? That’s very bad” the heartbroken mother added.
