The Windward Islands shrugged off the disappointment of their last-place finish in the Cricket West Indies T20 Blaze, and began their CG United Women’s Super50 Cup campaign with a 91-run win over defending champions Trinidad and Tobago on January 27, at Sion Hill Playing Field in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Trinidad and Tobago captain Karishma Ramharack won the toss and elected to field first. Ashlene Edward was out early, bowled for just four runs, but fellow opener and Saint Lucian compatriot Zaida James crafted a fine partnership with the veteran, Afy Fletcher. The two West Indies players contrived to add 49 runs, before James was dismissed for a patient 38 off 85 balls, inclusive of six fours.
Amiah Gilbert did not stick around for long, contributing just two. But the heart of the innings was the collaboration between Fletcher and Jannillea Glasgow. They added 101 runs in 14.1 overs, taking the team to 170-4 by the time Fletcher was dismissed for 61.
Glasgow stuck around until the 50th over, compiling a fine 73 from 88 balls. She hit nine fours as the Windwards piled up 225-7. Nadia Mohammed was the best bowler for TTO, taking 2-42, but the bowling team also delivered 30 extras.
In response, the Trinbagonians were all out after 33.2 overs, for a dismal score of 134 against a disciplined and balanced Windwards attack. Only a 70-run lower-order partnership between Lee-Ann Kirby and captain Karishma Ramharack got the Divas to a respectable tally, after they were 56-6 in the 17th over.
Kirby tallied 31 and Ramharack 29. At the top of the order Briney Cooper hit 28, but wickets fell early and often. Fletcher took 4-23 from her 8.2 overs, and fellow West Indies player Glasgow captured 2-14 from four overs. Zaida James, Aldith Gasper, and Carena Noel had one wicket each.
On Thursday, the Windwards face the Leeward Islands at Cumberland Playing Field. The Leewards were beaten by Barbados on Tuesday, losing by 79 runs at Park Hill in Colonarie. Barbados were all out for 144 in 47.5 overs. Medium pacer Shanisha Hector bagged four wickets for 19 runs. The Leewards response was unconvincing, however, as they were bowled out for 65 in just 25.5 overs.
