FIFA, the world governing body for football, is reportedly investigating claims of racist abuse involving American streamer and social media influencer IShowSpeed.
The incident took place during the World Cup match between Argentina and Cape Verde and involved IShowSpeed and a fan.
IShowSpeed, who recently visited Saint Lucia during a Caribbean tour, has over 56 million YouTube subscribers and over 53 million TikTok followers. He is a passionate football fan and has streamed live from matches at this year’s World Cup.
FIFA said in a statement that it learned about the incident, which reportedly happened at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida, on July 3, after footage from IShowSpeed’s YouTube stream began circulating. The video shows Speed wearing a Cape Verde kit and having a confrontation with a fan in an Argentina jersey in the crowd.
“FIFA strongly condemns racism, hate and discrimination in all forms,” a FIFA statement said on Tuesday.
“These actions have no place in football, at the FIFA World Cup, or anywhere in society. The FIFA World Cup is a celebration of unity, diversity and respect. It brings together people, cultures and communities from around the world, and anyone who acts in a manner that undermines these values is not welcome in our game.”
No other information was given about the specific allegations.
