Ten bands crossed the stage to compete in the “Mas on the Move” category as Lucian Carnival wrapped up in Castries on Tuesday. The parade began just before 11 am, and by 4:30 pm, all the bands had arrived in the city from Choc.
The first day of the parade was on Monday, with bands in full costume. Judges looked at several categories that day, such as “Band of the Year”, “Section of the Year” and “Individual of the Year”, among others.
On day two, Tuesday, most revellers opted for “Tuesday wear” rather than full costume, a trend recently imported from Trinidad.
The official end for the closing parade was 7 pm, with most bands making their way back to the starting point long before that.
Police reported that the two-day parade was mostly free of incidents. However, Fire and Emergency teams responded to several calls each day, mainly for dehydration, too much alcohol, falls, and minor vehicle accidents.
This year, ten bands competed for the Band of the Year title: Fuzion Mas, Xuvo Carnival Band, Tribe of Twel, Just 4 Fun, Local Foreigners, Royalites Xtreme, Xpressions Carnival Band, Island Tribe, Nexus Mas, and Legends Carnival Band. Just 4 Fun and Xuvo were the largest, each with over 2,000 participants.
The two-day event also included visiting bands from the French Antilles, as well as performances by steelpan players and stiltwalkers.
Celebrities like Chloe Bailey, Kandi Burrus, and Machel Montano joined the parade and appeared to enjoy the celebrations.
Several popular songs kept the energy high, including “Whistle” by Tallyboy and Sedale, “Salute” by Ezra, “Waist” by Hollywood HP, and “Biscuit” by Andrew.
The Carnival Planning and Management Committee (CPMC), which organises Lucian Carnival, will announce the winners in each category and the Road March winner on Wednesday.
