USVI handed a Saint Lucian sapat in CFU U14 football

The young Piton Boyz stole the show on the second day of the Caribbean Football Union Boys Under-14 Challenge Series in the eastern Dominican Republic with a 7-0 victory over the United States Virgin Islands.

Monday’s win at Cap Cana Sports City in Punta Cana was crucial, especially since Suriname and Grenada drew 1-1 in the other Tier II Group D match. If Saint Lucia had lost again, they would have lost any chance of finishing first in the group.

Despite their victory, Saint Lucia still need to beat Suriname on Wednesday and hope for a miracle in the Grenada vs USVI match. The Virgin Islanders have not scored yet and have conceded 15 goals in their first two games.

Saint Lucia secured the biggest win of the day on Monday, featuring five different goal scorers. Shem Ishmael and Leon Vidal each had braces, whilst Anaj Piolius, Adan Adjodha and Khairi Elibox were also on target.

Ishmael slotted home from the top of the box in the 10th minute, putting Saint Lucia up 1-0 at halftime. Six minutes into the second period, the New Generation FC #12 latched onto a loose ball from just outside the area and smashed home into the far netting.

That goal seemed to unlock the USVI defence. Substitute Anaj Polius of Monchy United dispossessed a defender in space and hit the back of the net from a narrow angle. Anse La Raye’s Adan Adjodha struck from a rebound, and Saint Lucia Sports Academy’s Leon Vidal converted a penalty, all within five minutes.

a Monchy United midfielder raced down the right wing and finished a perfect cross to make it 6-0. In the final moments, Vidal made a clever spin move to score his second goal and the team’s seventh.

Saint Lucia will need to dig deep to pull out a win over the strong Surinamese on Wednesday. Victory would see them finish at least second in the group.
